Trojan.PSW family
This family of Trojan programs uses password stealing tools (Password-Stealing-Ware). When run, these programs look for system data files (usually phone numbers and Internet access passwords) and when found, sends them to the Trojan's author or controllers.
These programs usually are Windows-based, and use Windows functions and the System Registry to locate necessary data files. They then establish an Internet connection and send the data to an e-mail address(or addresses).
There are also DOS password-stealing Trojans, but they are not widespread.
Some Windows-based PSW Trojans also copy themselves to the Windows directory and register themselves in the System Registry in order to gain control upon each reboot. These types of PSW Trojans are more dangerous, because they can send out confidential data the whole time they are installed in the system. |
