| Description:
|
The PeopleOnPage program is an adware and browser hijacker that claims to be an Internet Explorer sidebar which claims to show a list of other users of the current site.
The software opens pop-up adverts (which themselves may spawn other pop-ups) at regular intervals when Internet Explorer is in use.
When the PeopleOnPage sidebar is open, the addresses of all pages visited are sent to the controlling server with a unique tracking ID.
From the privacy policy:
"POP allows you to fill out a profile and to provide certain information on a voluntary basis, such as your photograph, country of residence and the like. This information may be personally identifiable, including "sensitive" data such as information about your racial or ethnic origins, political or religious beliefs, or health or sex life. POP does not require you to provide the more sensitive data, but if you do choose to provide it we will store that information for use in your profile. However, POP will not make any personal identifiable information such as email, address or telephone numbers available to any other members or third parties without your knowledge (such as with our Invite a Friend feature). POP requires that you provide minimum information for use of our services and as a condition of downloading the POP software. This includes your e-mail address (which will not be disclosed by POP to any other POP members or other third parties) and fictitious user name.
In addition to information you provide, POP will automatically collect and store information about Web sites you visit, email that you send to and receive from other POP members, and other information such as the name of the domain and host from which you access the Internet; the IP address of the computer you are using; the browser and operating system you are using; and the date and time you use POP Services.
