Elevated threats are usually threats that fall into the range of adware in which data about a user's habits are tracked and sent back to a server for analysis without your consent or knowledge. |
| Description:
|
SearchSeekFind is an Internet Explorer toolbar that profiles and reports your searching habits.
SearchSeekFind is an adware updater that checks http://tp.searchseekfind.com for the new updates, and then attempts to download the updates over a plain HTTP connection (not the secure HTTPS variant) and launch them. No integrity check is made.
From the EULA: "SearchSeekFind's SSF Technology Plugin issues a unique id that identifies a specific computer connected to the internet. The unique id helps us store information based on the websites you are visiting and the keywords you search for on a daily basis in order to form a profile. This profile is then used to show you offers that you may be interested in and are 100% relevant based on the profile we have built. This profile does not identify any personal information about you. We do not know you name, location, or any other information. We respect your right to privacy.
This profile is stored on SearchSeekFind.com servers and consists of:
•
search terms and frequency
•
visited website you have visited and frequency, including the address, time spent, and information on what products you were interested in by following the site trail you took while on that particular website.
•
which advertisements were delivered to you through SearchSeekFind's SSF Technology Plugin, and your responses to each.
•
Standard web log information and system settings such as user IP addresses, browser type and versions, screen resolution, time zone, and connection speed and the version numbers of some of the software installed on your personal computer
Due to the fact that SearchSeekFind SSF Technology has both a client (software) and server (network) component, SearchSeekFind.com-controlled servers do communicate with your computer on a regular basis. SearchSeekFind uses current technologies that allow our network to deliver automatic updates, software applications and other pertinent information directly to your computer without any interaction on your part. This allows us to keep SearchSeekFind Software up to date at all times."

Adware - Adware is generally software that displays advertisements. Some advertisers may covertly install adware on your system and generate a stream of unsolicited advertisements that can clutter your desktop and affect your productivity. The advertisements may also contain pornographic or other material that you might find inappropriate. The extra processing required to track you or to display advertisements can tax your computer and hurt your system performance. |
